Why should we care?

I’m often asked why we should care about what really happened at 9/11, or the Watergate Scandal, or the Kennedy Assassination.  We’ll never find out so what’s the point in pursuing the truth?  Evidence is destroyed, witnesses silenced, many of them dead by now and those who aren’t don’t dare to speak up out of fear for their lives and the life of their loved ones.

If someone cannot be silenced through threats or killing them they are ridiculed and attempts are made to destroy their reputation.  Some of those attempts are either to expose past misdemeanors or to invent them, or to have them declared insane – anything to render them untrustworthy in the eyes of the public.  Only the official version is allowed to stand.

Many of the public unfortunately are taken in by ‘authorised’ and ‘official’ versions of events.  This is not really surprising, most are too busy with their personal lives and riding the roller-coasters of the entertainment jungle to notice anything wrong with the news bites between soaps, fashion and the big brother house.   They behave like cattle that eat the hay thrown to them without questioning their owners motives.  And like cattle, once fattened up, they’re ready for slaughter.  They won’t know it until it happens to them.

It is saddening when I try to speak to colleagues at work to find that many of them don’t have the faintest clue at what is going on. If one mentions anything that contradicts the official version of any event they quickly ridicule and feel strong in the support of the majority around them.  Only crackpots would question the official story,  they seem to think.  Most of them have never taken a serious look at any evidence with a critical eye but completely put their trust in the official version of events, and these are people who are considered some of the brightest in our country.

Of course it’s not to deny that there are a lot of crackpot ideas out there as many people try to come to terms with the discrepancies in the official version.  Is it because aliens control our government and cause them to do what they do?  Is it because the government is really run by the Mafia?  Is there a secret plot to overthrow the government and turn the country into a dictatorship?

The idea that a government could be behind the 9/11 attack is incomprehensible for many and they therefore need to find answers outside the normal sphere of how things work.  Instinctively we want to trust our government to protect us and that they have our best interest in mind.  Many of the so called ‘crackpot’ ideas are really only attempts to cope with an atrocity that seems so outrageous there’s no way that our leaders could have committed them unless they were under some kind of evil spell or influence.

Many ‘crackpot’ ideas are also initiated not by truth seekers but by the perpetrators themselves.  The CIA is known to allocate resources to spread disinformation through the internet.  By creating misinformation and attacking them they create a straw man that can easily be used to destroy opposition.  If you can’t stop real evidence to leak into the open that could be used to expose the myth you create false evidence as a bait in the hope that those truth seekers will bite and thus expose themselves to ridicule.

In the light of such great difficulties to get to the truth why should we still care?

Let’s take another angle: maybe those things, as bad as they sound, are done for the good of us?  Should we not trust our governments that they have the best interest of the country in mind? Isn’t it sometimes necessary for our leaders to get their hands dirty to secure our freedom?  Who knows, maybe by planting bombs into the world trade centres and killing nearly 3000 people not counting the deaths of the aftermath, they prevented a greater disaster.  Isn’t it the case that sacrifices have to be made at times?

It’s the idea of a sinking boat where some people have to be sacrificed to lighten the load to increase the chances that the remaining passengers will survive.  When a country is under attack, some of the population have to go out to fight a war to protect us civilians.  We accept the fact that in certain situations we have to sacrifice some of our own for the greater good.

Could 9/11 be such an event that was allowed to happen to make the public ready to embrace new laws that impinge on our freedoms for the sake to protect us against a real threat? Before 9/11 the American public would never have allowed such an onslaught on its freedom, but after being under attack and while still under shock they were willing to accept it without a fight. Also since Vietnam the American public has become weary of wars and it was difficult for presidents since to rally support to fight their wars.  Since 9/11  however there were no more real obstacles to go into Afghanistan and Iraq.  (The honeymoon however is wearing off as the public is becoming more and more aware about how they have been deceived).

I think those who hold those views that common people have to be deceived and kept in the dark about the truth and that sacrifices like this are necessary to get the public on their side are the real danger to our freedom and our real enemies.  If the public does not act against the infringement on their human rights it won’t be long until they wake up as slaves in their own country, back into the dark ages were there was an elite who had everything and the rabble which provided it for them.  This is why we need to care, that the freedoms our ancestors have gained, enduring so much bloodshed, being tortured and forced to fight, that these freedoms that have cost so much are not given away so easily.

God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty…. And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.”

Thomas Jefferson
